Preface
R .K. Verma, IAS Allotment procedure of prime industrial plots in the heart of IT city - Mohali for allotment under off the shelf scheme to IT/ITeS/Knowledge Industry at IT park, Sector 67, remained our focus this quarter. A focused investor interaction organized at New Delhi and Mohali, elicited a very encouraging response and we will commence the allotment process shortly.

As a part of our efforts to create land banks for IT investors in Punjab, a lot of ground has been covered in bringing the IT Parks at Railmajra and Rajpura to fruition. An overwhelming response was received to pre-bid meeting held for consultancy services on self - contained Global Industrial & Knowledge City at Rajpura.

On the Human Resource Development front we organized a meet of HR heads of IT companies at Mohali with the objective of development of human resources in the region.

In this issue we are also covering an interaction with Mr.Sanjiv Vashisht, MD, Lambodra Infotech, Mohali, who has set up a successful IT business in Mohali in a very short span of time.

Allotment of prime industrial plots at IT Park Sector - 67, Mohali

Allotment of prime industrial plots at IT Park Sector - 67, MohaliSector-67 IT Park spread over an area of 15.72 acres in Mohali is today home to renowned global and domestic IT companies. US headquartered KMG Infotech and Sebiz Infotech have started operations in the Infotech complex, while HCL Infosystems, US-based Dibon Software Solutions, Dr IT Planet, Competent Synergies, IDS Infotech would commence operations this year.

Punjab Infotech has invited the applications from IT/Knowledge industry for allotment of six plots measuring one acre each at IT Park, Sector-67, Mohali. In response to the advertisement, a number of applications have been received and Punjab Infotech will commence the allotment process shortly.

Integrated Global Industrial & Knowledge City at Rajpura.

The Punjab government is developing a self-contained Integrated Global Industrial & Knowledge City spread over an area of over 1,359.46 acres at Rajpura. Situated on NH-1, nearly 45 km south east of Chandigarh, the location is ideally suited for the development of the prestigious Global Industrial and Knowledge City for IT and IT-enabled services industry. It is near to Chandigarh-Mohali International Airport and would provide world class state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities. The total contiguous land is already in the process of acquisition. Punjab Infotech has advertised to invite the proposals from the reputed International / National entities to provide the consultancy services for planning & development of the Global Industrial & Knowledge City at Rajpura and Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) in Punjab. M/s Feedback Ventures (P) Limited has been engaged for the selection process of global consultant. International consultants for the project would be in place by the end of June who would do the planning and lay the roadmap for infrastructure development of the project.

In order to improve the connectivity to the site from NH-1, a six lane straight road access from NH1 is being worked out.

Ludhiana gets air link

Ludhiana gets air linkLudhiana, the industrial hub of Punjab has been connected to major cities of the country through domestic Sahnewal airport. With the commencement of this airport, Ludhiana would get direct connectivity to major cities of India such as Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai. With Mohali-Chandigarh poised to become a major hub for international and domestic air travel and upcoming airports at Bhatinda and Pathankot, the connectivity to the State would be one of the best in the country.

The domestic airport at Ludhiana was a long pending demand of the city residents for enhancing the business prospects for the industrial and commercial capital of the north India. The airport would also meet the long felt need of the non-resident Indian community of Punjab.

Punjab plans big development push to change face of urban areas An integrated comprehensive urban development plan has been approved to change the face of urban areas of Punjab within time bound frame.

The accelerated and integrated urban development programme has been envisaged to rejuvenate all components of Urban Development including Road Infrastructure, Sewerage and Water supply network, Strengthening Power Transmission Network, Solid Waste collection Processing, beautification and landscaping of gardens, Road berms on both sides of roads, replacing the street lights with LED lights and Traffic management.

Massive up gradation of road infrastructure including construction of over bridges, ROBs, expansion of roads and landscaping of area around roads in view of increased flow of motorized traffic would be undertaken after conducting traffic surveys, identifying problem points for scientific up gradation of road infrastructure. For the improvement of public transport system in the cities, the State would soon purchase 150 low floor buses and 50 Volvo buses for intrastate traffic.

In order to address the increasing problems of solid waste management in the urban cities, it has been decided to set up an integrated solid waste management plant at Amritsar. The plant would process the solid waste of Amritsar and adjoining cities like Tarntaran, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Phillaur, Majitha, Patti etc. Land for the plant has already been acquired and plant would be operational within 8 months.

Allocation of Rs 2,000 cr for Upgradation of Punjab roads Focusing on improving the road connectivity in the state, the Punjab government has allocated Rs 2,000 crore for the construction and repair of roads and bridges. Rs 750 crore had already been spent on road development projects. An inter-village road network of 5,000 km has being laid to help the rural populace.

Punjab government has been making concerted efforts for better road connectivity in the state, while all villages of the state had already been connected with the main roads. Punjab enjoys the distinction of being the first State in India to spread its road network far and wide and achieving 100% road connectivity to villages.
